10 Unexplored Places in Himachal Pradesh

Written by Ananya Kapoor Reviewed by Rajeev Mehta Updated 16 May 2026

Why Look Beyond Shimla and Manali

Himachal has far more range than its two most famous towns. Once you get past the well-trodden circuit, a handful of valleys reward the extra travel time with fewer crowds and a slower pace.

  • Chitkul โ€” the last inhabited village before the Indo-Tibet border
  • Tirthan Valley โ€” trout streams and no cell signal
  • Jibhi โ€” a quiet base for short forest walks

Getting There

Getting to most of these places takes an extra day of driving from Shimla or Manali, which is exactly why they've stayed quiet. Roads are mostly in good condition April through October.

  • Best visited April-June or September-November
  • Carry cash โ€” many villages have no ATMs
  • Book homestays in advance during peak season

Planning Tips

Public transport is limited beyond the main towns, so a private vehicle or an organised tour makes these detours far more comfortable.
